Treadmill Warning

I recently came upon an interesting piece of information that I thought I should pass along.  It pertains to running.  A friend of mine who recently got into running has suffered an injury.  She broke her foot because she was running over six miles a day on the treadmill.  When she got the news that her foot was broken, she talked to her doctor about what may have gone wrong.

For starters, if you are considering running greater distances than you normally do, you need to make sure you are wearing the proper shoes.  They really do make all the difference.  If you are not wearing a proper running shoe, you are going to be more prone to injury.  To see what kind of shoe will best suit you, visit  http://www.mamashealth.com/run/runshoe.asp.

Another important tidbit I though was interesting is that her doctor also advised her not to run faster than 6 mph. He said that the treadmill is not made for our bodies to be moving faster than a medium run. It can be bad for your knees. I am not sure if I agree with this or not, but I can say that I used to only run 2 miles a day at a faster speed, but now I am running 3 miles a day at a slower pace. I am beginning to think that slowing down my speed is actually giving me a better workout!

Butter Lovers Beware!

i-cant-believe-its-not-butter-sprad-15oz2Everyone thinks that butter in small doses is not a huge deal. The thing is, it is. Butter contains high amount of trans fat, which is not good for your body. Not only does is cause you to gain weight, it clogs arteries as well. The recommended daily amount of trans fat is 2 g per day. Butter contains 0.3 grams of trans fat per tablespoon, and 7.2 grams of saturated fat. If you think about all of the butter you actually consume, you can see how it all adds up.

That is why is it important that you find an alternative for butter. I would suggest switching to, “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter.” I tried and, and I have to say I enjoy the taste. And it really does spread like butter, with the softness of margarine. And the best part of it is that it only contains 5 calories per serving and no fat! Peanut butter is also a good alternative for butter when it comes to toast, sandwiches, and bagels. Try to cut out as much butter in your day as possible!

Thigh Exercises

I think we can all agree that one particular area of our bodies gets on our nerves.  Inner thighs.  With all the exercises that say they help, and no results, how are you ever supposed to fix your area problem?  While looking how to improve this problem, I searched around and found something that I truly believe may help.  I have been working at these tips for a few weeks, and have to admit, I do feel a little better about myself.  I think that one of the main problems with working out is if you do not see results almost immediately, you get discouraged.

In order to see results, you must be willing to put in the time and effort of exercising.  If you are willing, then I advise you to visit this site and take their advice.  One thing people do not understand is that you can get a workout even when you are not at the gym.  Things such as brisk walking, and eating lighter and healthier are things you can do everyday that do not require you to go to the gym.  Doing these things in addition to daily workouts will increase your chance of seeing worthy results.

The tips on the site will work, just give it time and hard work.  You are only hurting yourself if you do not take it seriously: http://www.annecollins.com/Weight_Loss/slim_thighs_exercises.htm

Acai Berries

I am pretty sure everyone has heard about the new miracle weight loss pill from Oprah- acai berry pills.  I found an article about the acai berry pills called, “Acai berries: Miracle food or just a fad?”  The berry is said to be able to increase your energy, detoxify your body, and improve your sexual performance.  Whether or not these are true, acai berry pills are causing a lot of controversy.  The article states that ever since acai berries have been introduced to America, marketing campaigns exploded and many claims about it have been made such as increasing energy all the way to reversing diabetes.  I think people are hoping the little berry is going to answer all their problems but the truth is, not enough studies have been done on the supplement to make these claims.  “There have been few studies on the effects the berry with the bitter chocolate-raspberry flavor have on humans, but some studies have shown promising results in the fight against cancer.”  A study was done at the University of Florida did a study which showed really good results in the fight on cancer.  The study showed that the acai berry triggered a self-destruct response in as much as 86% of leukemia cells which I think is amazing!

The berry has shown that is contains a lot of vitamins and minerals such as vitamins B and C, iron, potassium, phosphorus, calcium and protein.  Along with these good benefits is that is has a high amount of fiber and heart-healthy fats in the form of monounsaturated oleic acid.  “The fruit is often touted for its high levels of antioxidants, which have been shown to prevent and even repair damage done by free radicals, which are by-products from cells using oxygen.”

The thing most people want to hear, however, is that acai berry pills will help them lose a lot of weight.  Studies have not been shown yet that this is the case.  What most people are falling into is the acai berry scam.  Oprah’s website now puts up that people should not buy the product online from companies that claim the pill will do a lot of amazing things.   You should not give out your credit card information online because the companies will often charge you monthly, even though they say you are getting a free trial.  As far as the scam goes, just get the pills from a retailer instead of ordering them online.  Also, do not expect to lose half your body weight just by taking the pills.  It would be good to take them though because they can help you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
